Kalaidoscope Morning 1 (Woman With Butterfly)

Today is the second day of my Spring Break. The beauty of a Spring Break is that it gives me the opportunity to become refreshed, to try something new, to work with new mediums.

Today my first task for the day was to get a piece completed and to write my Blog. I used Corel Painter Lite. I opened the symmetry setting to kalaidoscope and set it for four lines. Then, using a Sum-e pen, I outlined the basic design. I had already decided that I was going to use pink and blues as the color scheme.

My next step was to fill in the design with different shades of the color scheme. I used a soft watercolor layer to very quickly fill in the design, then went back and used markers and oils to fill in the details.

Once I had the basic design, I used an acid etch on the round "balls" at the end of each stem. That changed the coloring a bit....it gave it a slight white/bright tone.

Afterwards I covered it with a clear varnish and used an oily rag to smooth it all out.

Then, once finished with this part, I saved it in a folder, opened PicMonkey and enhanced the overall effect with some spotlighting and toning. The silhouette is a previous piece that I made using layering. I added the silhouette as a layer on top of the original design and blended them.

I'm happy with the result.

Here in Middle Tennessee, we go back to school in two weeks, so it's the perfect time to begin thinking about icebreaker activities.  My Back to school Bumper Sticker Printable and Activity includes 20 different bumper stickers, 10 color and 10 black and white. There are 2 bumper stickers per page. Use this as an icebreaker in the following way: Students brainstorm some bumper stickers that they've seen and what those bumper stickers say about the person driving the car. Then, the students will write down several bumper sticker sayings that represent them and their ideas or beliefs. Show students some examples of completed bumper stickers. Afterwards, give each student a copy of the bumper sticker template. Each student designs and creates a bumper sticker that represents him or her. The form of a personal pronoun shows how it can be used in a sentence. Pronouns used as subjects and predicate nominatives are in the subject form. Examples:  He and I went to the post office. The winner of the marathon is she. Pronouns used as direct objects and indirect objects of verbs and objects of the preposition are in the object form.
