Single Handed, the Irish television crime drama

"Single Handed" is the Irish television drama series, first broadcast on RTE Television in 2007. Set and filmed in the west of Ireland, it focuses on the life of the Garda Siochana, Sergeant Jack Driscoll. The role of Driscoll is played by Owen McDonnell. Three two-episode, single-story series aired one each on consecutive nights in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Series four, consisting of three stories told over six episodes, began on RTE One November 2010.

An Garda Siochana is an Irish word meaning "the guardian of the peace." The Civic Guard was formed by the provisional government in February 1922 to take over the responsibility of policing the fledgling Irish Free State.
